The use of gum arabic in amounts not exceeding two pounds per 1,000 gallons of wine to stabilize and clarify wine, and the use of a product identified as `Wine Clarifier' containing pure U.S.P. agaragar and Standard Supercel, to clarify wines, in amounts not exceeding two pounds per 1,000 gallons of wine are also considered as being consistent with good commercial practice within the provisions of section 240.524 of the Federal Wine Regulations. Winemakers desiring to use these products in the treatment of wine may receive approval of the Assistant Regional Commissioner, Alcohol and Tobacco Tax, by filing of appropriate notice pursuant to section 240.530 of the regulations.
This ruling amplifies Revenue Reling 58-461, C.B. 1958-2, 999, which contains a list of materials authorized for use in the production, cellar treatment, and finishing of wine. Revenue Ruling 58-461, has previously been amplified by the following:
