The use of Resin Amberlite IRA-401-S for the treatment of wine is considered as being consistent with good commercial practice within the provisions of section 240.529 of the Federal Wine Regulations. The limitations prescribed by Revenue Ruling 58-461, C.B. 1958-2, 999, for Non Ionic and Conditioned Resin Amberlite IRA-401 are to be applied to the use of Amberlite IRA-401-S. Winemakers desiring to use Amberlite IRA-401-S for removing excessive oxidized color, foreign flavors and odors, and for stabilizing wines by the removal of heavy molecules and proteinaceous material, may receive the approval of the Assistant Regional Commissioner, Alcohol and Tobacco Tax, by filing of appropriate notice pursuant to section 240.530 of the regulations.
This ruling amplifies Revenue Ruling 58-461, supra , which contains a list of materials authorized for use in the production, cellar treatment, and finshing of wine. Revenue Ruling 58-461, supra , has previously been amplified by the following:
