The Internal Revenue Service has been asked whether `Uni-Loid Type 43 B' may be used as a clarifying agent in the production of wine.

The use of `Uni-Loid Type 43 B,' composed of pure U.S.P. agaragar and standard supercel, as a clarifying agent to clarify and stabilize wine in amounts not exceeding 2 pounds per 1,000 gallons of wine is considered as being consistent with good commercial practice within the provisions of 26 CFR 240.524.

Winemakers desiring to use this clarifying agent in the treatment of wine may obtain approval of the Assistant Regional Commissioner, Alcohol and Tobacco Tax, by filing a notice pursuant to the provisions of 26 CFR 240.1052.
