A product known as `Cufex' has been approved for use by wine-makers to remove trace metals from wine, provided there does not remain in the finished wine any insoluble residue in excess of one part per million, and provided further, that no soluble residues remain in the finished wine and the basic character of the wine is not changed by such treatment.
Revenue Ruling 25, C.B. 1953-1, 431, is modified to include the above.
Similar products may be authorized for use by winemakers to remove trace metals from wine provided they first are approved for such use by the National Office.
Prescribed methods and procedures for testing for residues when wine is treated with `Cufex,' or similar approved products, may be obtained from the offices of the Assistant Regional Commissioners, Alcohol and Tobacco Tax.
