The IRS received more than 63 million federal tax returns and issued more than 45 million refunds totaling more than $151 billion through March 11, but inadequate technology and lack of funding continue to hinder operations, IRS Commissioner Charles Rettig said at a March 17 House Ways and Means Oversight Subcommittee hearing.
