Advertising Policy

In General

As a nonprofit publisher, Tax Analysts is primarily funded by revenue from content subscriptions. We also accept third-party advertising for our weekly Tax Notes magazines, Tax Notes Federal, Tax Notes International, and Tax Notes State; Tax Notes Today Federal, Tax Notes Today International, and Tax Notes Today State, providing daily news, analysis, and commentary for tax professionals; and our research products. Tax Analysts also accepts advertising and sponsorship in connection with its website, and certain of its seminars, conferences, and tax-related events.

Accepting third-party advertising and sponsorship helps to increase and diversify the revenue sources that support our mission to foster free, open, and informed discussion about taxation.

Independence

Tax Analysts maintains its independence from third-party advertisers by separating our content from any advertising, in two related but distinct ways:

Process independence: Tax Analysts’ editors edit every publication without prior knowledge of any advertisers and/or advertisements to be included. Likewise, advertisers and sponsors also have no advance knowledge of any editorial content prior to publication. Content of Tax Analysts’ publications is added, altered, or deleted solely to ensure the highest standards of journalism and to serve our subscribers.

Content independence: Our content, advertising requirements, and advertising policy are generated without input from any advertisers or sponsors. In addition, Tax Analysts’ advertising sales representatives do not provide input during content editing before it is published.

Relevance of content

Tax Analysts only accepts ads that pertain to the tax community, adding value to our readers. Advertising that we may accept includes, but is not limited to:

  • Forums for open discussion of tax-related subjects, such as conferences;
  • Educational programs related to tax;
  • Books or software on tax-related subjects;
  • Teaching and learning resources;
  • Research institutes or opportunities;
  • Advisory and legal services related to tax;
  • Career opportunities;
  • Tools and resources for research.

Advertising that we do NOT accept includes, but is not limited to:

  • Irrelevant ad subjects;
  • Lobbying;
  • Representation in front of the IRS.

Tax Analysts reserves the right to decline any advertisement or sponsorship for any reason at its sole discretion, including, without limitation, any advertisement that is deemed to be irrelevant to its mission. Tax Analysts will decline to accept advertising that it knows or believes to be misleading, inaccurate, fraudulent, or illegal, or that fails to comply, in Tax Analysts’ sole discretion, with its standards of decency, taste, or dignity.

Transparency

Tax Analysts is committed to full transparency with regard to advertisers and sponsors.

Sponsors of Tax Analysts’ hosted events and conferences, and its website and email services, are updated periodically. Sponsor information may be acquired by emailing advertise@taxanalysts.org.

Liability

The publication of any advertisement does not constitute endorsement or approval of any product or service advertised by, or any point of view, standard, or opinion set forth in, such advertisement.

Advertisers are solely responsible for the appropriateness and accuracy of the content that they intend to publish. Tax Analysts will not be liable for any damages and costs of legal procedures as a result of any misleading, inaccurate, fraudulent, or illegal content in the advertisements and the advertisers’ actions, including actions for libel, negligence, misrepresentation, fraud, violation of privacy, plagiarism, copyright infringement, and any other claims that may arise from publication of a third-party advertisement.

Tax Analysts has the right to remove advertisements with the potential to injure or harm Tax Analysts, its officers and employees, or any third party. However, Tax Analysts has no liability other than the return of any charge that has been paid for advertising.

Tax Analysts provides advertisers with a remedy for errors in advertisements occurring solely as a direct result of the actions or omissions of our employees. The sole remedy available is in the form of discounted future advertising, which will be determined on a case-by-case basis.
